syedorf Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 hi there i was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem i cant get reverse gear at first attempt sometimes it take a couple of mins and i have too run through the gears or put it in first with the brakes on and let the clutch bite then it will go in it is driving me mad i dont think it is a fault with the cable linkage as i can get all other gears no problems thanks in advance Quote
syedorf Posted May 18, 2008 Author Report Posted May 18, 2008 my dad has exactly the same problem on his diesel so i think it must just be on the diesels Quote
chromedome Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Could be clutch drag so doesn't always disengage first time. When was the brake/clutch fluid replaced? Should be changed every two years, over time the fluid absorbs moisture and degrades. Maybe worth bleeding the hydraulics as a first step. Only other cure I know is clutch replacement. May be some other members will offer further advice. Quote

syedorf Posted May 23, 2008 Author Report Posted May 23, 2008 hi there thanks for the reply but if the clutch wasnt disengaging then why do i only get the problem in reverse thanks again Quote
chromedome Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 I believe that reverse is more difficult to select because of the gearing in the gearbox. I'm not that technically minded but I'm sure someone will tell you why. Quote
scoobydo Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 hey ppl,Iam new to the site and iam also having the same problem with my 96 diesel galaxy,I have read the other replys and Iam wondering if replacing the fluid workedmine seems to go in every gear great and when it does go in reverse it feels normal but when it doesnt it is hard to get it in it can taske ages,if I turn the engine off it somtimes goes straight in?Can anybody shed some light on this as its driving me mad!!! syedorf Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 that is exactly the same as mine i have heard of a pich bolt coming loose has any1 had similar symptoms from this? Quote
chromedome Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 I would of thought that if it was a pinch bolt on the selector mechanism you would have trouble with all gears. I still say clutch drag. With the engine running, try pumping the clutch pedal a few times and then see if you can get reverse. This should prove or eliminate the hydraulic fluid thought. Quote
syedorf Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 hi i have tried the pumping of the pedal and it doesnt work i thought maybe the pinch bolt on the raise and lower linkage because reverse may need extra movement for the extra gear Quote
